Agematsu Town is known for its forestry industry born of its abundant forests. There was a logging station which was owned by the forest railroad next to Agematsu Station. With Kiso Town to the north, Okuwa Village to the south, a National forest to the west, and to the east Mt. Kiso Komagatake, the highest mountain of the Central Alps, Agematsu Town is located alongside Komagane City. The Kiso River runs through the length of the town emanating the unique scenic beauty of the Kiso Valley. The town was once one of the 11 post towns of the Nakasendo (Central Mountain Highway). Here, 5 of the 8 famed sites of Kiso such as 'Nezame no Toko' and 'Kiso no Kakehashi' can be viewed. |
